The Cragstud School Project
We are working with CARLETON ENDOWED CHURCH OF ENGLAND PRIMARY SCHOOL to bring Budgerigars into the classroom. The Children will be able to take a budgie home to look after at the weekend.
We are working with Joyce a Teacher within the School as the first Class to test the Project and we hope to also bring a few other Schools into the project at a later date.
The Cragstud is hoping to get support from the Hobby and help us to get this going in a few Schools within North Yorkshire.
We are at stage 1 : The Children have been working hard baking and selling cakes to raise funds for the big in door cage, We have a few people that have kindly offered smaller cages for the weekend trip home.
I have sourced some nice coloured variety birds for them as youngsters that are in a nest box still and will be out soon.
I am also in contact with a further 2 Schools to see if this project would be possible in the School.
I am really pleased to be part of this great project and feel that it will bring the Budgerigar as a Hobby of keeping and breeding and also showing to the young Children and also the Parents can see a new Hobby for the family away from video gaming and bring back a true Hobby and pass time.
If you would like to Donate anything to the cause please get in touch I am trying to support and help where I can but need help to get this going in a few Schools.
The Class has now purchased a big class cage well done to al the Children that baked and raised funds for this a real credit to them, I am donating 2 budgies free to the school and also some seed.
I hope to have 2 smaller cages so the Children can take them home at the weekends.
I will update as the birds are about 10 days away from being old enough to leave for the School.
Update 11-11-09
Update the School Teacher Joyce has collected the birds along with a cage and seeds and other items we sourced. I am sure the Children are enjoying the birds and hope to have a few pics and feedback soon to post on this page.
New update we had these fantastic letters from the School we helped with the birds. We hope to work with further Schools next year. so will update. No Names are displayed for the Childrens protection as you can understand.

Thank you for letting us have the budgies for free.
We have named the yellow Budgie Squeak because he makes lots and lots of noise. We have named the blue Budgie Bubble because he is very blue.
Bubble is a very quiet Budgie who does not chirp much but Squeak is as noisy bird and flies around allot

First of all a massive thank you for donating us the little budgies. They are very cute. It was a very kind deed indeed! Secondly we have given them new names I’m not sure if you had given them names already so if you hadn’t they are now called bubble and squeak. The blue ones name is bubble who is rather timid, on the other hand the yellow bird is curios and confident already. Earlier he was very noises but when Bubble is asleep he is silent obviously doesn’t want to disturb his best mate.
They both keep chatting to each other I think they’ve settled in nicely. I can’t wait to look at your interesting sounding website. I might be getting a pet for my birthday do you think you could tell the best pet for an athletic 11 year old to be boy? Once again a great big thank you!

We have named the yellow Budgie Squeak because it makes allot of noise. we named the blue budgie bubble because he is blue. Bubble is very quiet.
Bubble needs to get used to us a bit more because he is quite scared.
Squeak started to chase bubble around it was quite funny.

Thank you ever so much for our loud and noisy pet budgies.
We have named our budgies, the blue budgie is called Bubbles and the yellow budgie is called Squeak.
They are very happy sitting on their little perches.
Squeak is a very lively budgie and is definitely looking for mischief.

Thank you ever so much for donating the beautiful budgies to our class room. We are very thankful. This morning we voted for their names; Squeak for the yellow one, and Bubble for the blue one.
Squeak is very playful and a bit of a chatter box, who is always looking for mischief. On the other hand, Bubble was very quiet and shy, but has just started to settle in.
